“A year and roughly a quarter,” I would answer every time someone asks how long we have been
together.
“On the other side of the world,” I would answer every time someone asks where she is.
“Somehow, we did and we have,”
I would answer every time someone asks if we are able to work out the distance
and gap.
Maybe it’s not that impressive to say the least. She and I, to
some, are a typical couple, maybe even less ordinary. Long distance
relationships? People have that too. A relationship that lasts for more than a
year? You know a handful of them. A cool background story? We have that cliché
as well. All of these things are perhaps praiseworthy, but they are common
elements of young love – that imperfect yet prevailing love we read in stories
and see in movies.
Perhaps love is not what makes a relationship special. It might
not even be about the degree of love or the kind of love you two shared or the
unique experiences that made your love stronger. Those are things that can be
found elsewhere. What is it about then? What makes a relationship worth
fighting for?
She is someone I have known for a couple of years now. That long,
thick hair, that once fenced but always-have-been cute smile, that slim figure,
that fair skin (which she attributes to her array of lotions and anemia), and
those adorable eyes were the first things that I noticed about her. Somehow,
her appearance complements her childish ways. Yes, she is childish in every
sense of the word.
or sleepy,
or hungry and sleepy,
or hungry and sleepy
with a touch of red (if you know what I mean).
Otherwise, you're
going to have a very bad time.
Contrary to popular
belief, sleeping makes her hungry. She eats like a pig but never gets fat
(except her face maybe), and once she likes a particular kind of food or
discovers that she likes it, she will eat it about 435872 times on that
particular day. Based on experience, food is the only thing that could calm the
witch in her when startled. You think that’s easy? Well, think again, because
you have to know which kind of food to give, which by the way could range from
street food, to chocolate, to fries, to pasta, to anything under the sun. You
have to anticipate what she wants, otherwise, you only make her more evil,
which could bring near-death encounters. It's like playing Bingo every time.
(wait, what did I just wrote?)
You know this sign?
The same sign
applies when she is asleep. Upon waking up, she knows no friend or family. In
fact, she doesn't know who she is, like she forgot her entire life. It's an
interval when the only thing in her mind is either food or her dream (which she
would only immediately forget). One has to wait for at least 15 minutes before
you could talk to her, or else something really bad is going to happen. Trust
me. Been there. Done that.
She is a very good planner. She plans approximately a year before
the event, and she gets excited about every random thing about it – from the
clothes she would wear to the things she would shop for.
Oh, talking about shopping and stuff, she has this wish list which is
longer than the average kid’s wish list to Santa during Christmas. Reading all the items included in it would probably take a normal person a day or two to complete, which could
range from an I-phone, to dogs, to sailing the world, to an exceptionally handsome boyfriend (which thank God
she already has, otherwise she would go nuts about it).
Anyone with a sound mind probably hates cockroaches. But her? She
hates it in a whole new different level, and when I say “a whole new different
level”, I do mean a Whole. New. Different. Level. Why? Because a
normal person sees a cockroach this way...
But she sees it this way...
…like it could choke her to death just by staring at her.
In every cockroach sighting, she does exactly three things:
(1) Pause and verify if it is a cockroach,
(2) Scream if it is cockroach, and lastly,
(3) Call her dad or her brother from the other side of the house to kill it for
her.
She is very fun to
be with when watching movies. Why? Because you don't only get to watch the
movie. You also get to play Who Wants to be a Millionaire for
free! You heard that right. Absolutely free without the phone
calls or elimination rounds! Every scene, she asks a question which you
are to answer in ten seconds. Whether you have the correct answer or not does
not matter because the questions just keeps on coming. There are no choices. No
lifelines. And, even if you answered better than the movie's director could
have probably answered, you automatically lose if the movie has a sad
ending.
She still has
frequent, random tantrums despite her age.
She likes to have
her towels change almost everyday.
She likes her
make-up kit more than your friendship with her.
She has cute but
weird fingers.
She speaks silly
sometimes.
Jealousy is her
most favorite pastime.
She's bored or
hyper when she texts the words "bzzzz", "bazookaaa!", or "owwwww.."
She laughs like a
lady but burps like a carpenter.
She knows kung fu,
and you can tell this the moment you hear her sneeze.
She likes salty
things over sweets.
She likes to
doodle.
She is spoiled.
She could sleep in
5 seconds if she wants to.
She thinks her
boyfriend could read minds, sing well, and perform stunts.
When she likes a
game, she plays it like there's no tomorrow.
She hates pimples
no matter how small or unnoticeable they are.
She screams at top
of her lungs when her internet connection is cut down.
She knows how to
dance (I said “know”… take note).
She likes to hear
stories, no matter how irrelevant or random they are.
She likes puppies
and pandas and all other cute things.
She sings in the
bathroom every single time, regardless of her mood or her problems.
She cries on simple
things and laughs on corny jokes.
She is careless and
forgetful at times.
She is a daredevil.
She is crazy.
She is just perfect.
She is the reason
why my relationship is worth fighting for.
I love you baby, so
much, and I promise you that nothing in the world could change the fact that I
love and will love every single thing about you - big things and small things
alike. Happy 13th monthsary!
P.S.
